What is Neuro SLP?
Neuro SLP (Neurological Speech-Language Pathology) is a private Speech and Language Pathology practice located in the Inner West of Sydney.
Neuro SLP is a mobile service – we come to you in your home or residential aged care facility (RACF). We cover metropolitan Sydney.
Neuro SLP offers assessment and therapy services via telehealth. This involves using Skype or FaceTime.
Neuro SLP strives to provide evidence-based communication and swallowing assessment and treatment services to adults who have a neurological illness or injury.
Neurological illness or injury includes stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, motor neurone disease, spinocerebellar degeneration, and other illnesses that affect the brain. These illnesses or injuries can affect communication and/or swallowing abilities. See the Links page for more information.
Who is Neuro SLP?
Neuro SLP was established by Belinda McDonald in 2014.
Belinda is a Lee Silverman Voice Therapy (LSVT ©) LOUD and eLOUD Certified Clinician.
Belinda graduated from Cumberland College (now Sydney University) in 1988 with a Bachelor’s degree in Applied Science (Speech Pathology), and has worked with adults in a number of hospitals and community settings (including residential aged care facilities) since then. Belinda’s primary area of practice has been helping people who have communication and/or swallowing problems from a neurological injury (such as stroke or traumatic brain injury) or a neurological illness (such as Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, dementia, motor neurone disease, and spinocerebellar degeneration).
Belinda has been training student Speech Pathologists in hospitals for 30 years. She has worked in aphasia research since 2001, and has co-written a number of journal articles and presented at national and international conferences.
Belinda is a Clinical Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney.
How does Neuro SLP work?
Neuro SLP strives to be holistic, skilled, caring and professional in everything we do.
When we receive your referral we will talk with you about your communication and/or swallowing difficulties. We also do an assessment of your communication and/or swallowing.
We work with you and your family to determine your communication or swallowing needs and goals. We think goals should be meaningful to you, as well as achievable.
We work with you, your family and your other treating health professionals towards reaching your goals. This website will give you more information about how Neuro SLP does this.
