At its core, Neuro SLP is committed to supporting people who have a neurological illness or injury to reach their communication and swallowing goals. We do this by providing person centred, collaborative, evidence-based communication and swallowing services in places that really matter to our clients.

Experience and service drive all that we do

Neuro SLP was set up by Belinda McDonald, CPSP, in 2014. Belinda made the shift from the public hospital system into private practice so she could use the extensive clinical, professional, and supervisory skills honed across many (now 35) years of clinical practice to better serve the needs of people in our community who have difficulty communicating and swallowing.

The opportunities of private practice have proved both liberating and energising

At the heart of Neuro SLP is a commitment to supporting people with neurological illness and injury to connect better with the people that matter to them, to eat and drink as safely as they can, and to adjust to the challenges they face because of their communication or swallowing difficulties. Over the last 9 years Belinda has continued to live out this commitment and has helped many people connect better with the people that matter to them, in the contexts that matter to them, whether that’s with family, friends, at work, when doing their favourite leisure activity, or over a meal. This is what private practice is really all about: evidence and heart-based services that meet the needs of our clients and empower clinicians to do what they love most.

People are at the centre of all that we do

Neuro SLP believes that communication is a human right, and that safe and accessible mealtimes are critical for health and wellbeing. To maximise our clients’ potential to achieve their communication and swallowing goals:

  • We are person-centred – everything we do is focused on collaborating with and empowering each person to achieve their goals
  • We work with integrity – we do what we say we will do
  • We work whole-heartedly – we do everything we can to work towards the benefit of our clients are all times
  • We work transparently – so that our clients are never in the dark about the future when it comes to their communication and swallowing
  • We work respectfully – so that clients feel included at every point of their journey
  • We work ethically – everything we do is driven by our professional responsibility to do the best we can for each and every person under our care

From little things big things grow.  Now it is time to expand and help more people.

Belinda is looking to expand Neuro SLP’s impact in the community by engaging Speech Pathologists (independent contractors) who are passionate about helping people who have a neurological illness or injury. You will:

  • Have at least 5 years of experience assessing and treating adults with communication and swallowing difficulties because of neurological illness and injury such as stroke, traumatic brain injury, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease and Parkinson’s Plus illnesses, multiple sclerosis, and dementia (including young onset dementia and progressive aphasia).
  • Have experience working in aged care facilities – or be willing to upskill in this area.
  • Have values which align with those of Neuro SLP.
  • Be passionate about providing person-centred, culturally responsive care, so that your care is meaningful and relevant to each client in their individual context.
  • Be committed to and engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice, so you are always growing clinically and professionally, and clients get the best of you.
  • Be committed to providing evidence-based practice and practice-based evidence so that clients always receive the services that will make a difference to their lives.
  • Work well independently but open to engaging in peer support.

Independent contracting is the best of both worlds

As an independent contractor, you will be able to choose your client load so that you can work to your strengths and/or grow your skills. Clinical variety is the spice of work life.

  • You will be able to work flexibly so that you can balance life and work.
  • You will have access to Splose (an Australian-made practice management software) to ensure your cloud-based client notes are safe, sound, and ready for use wherever you are, along with your calendar and templates, to free you up to do what you do best.
  • Admin support is available, so that you can use your time efficiently. Nothing beats a helping hand to support clients and your personal productivity. We know your time is precious.

There is opportunity for you to engage in peer-to-peer mentoring to enable you to keep growing as a clinician and provide the best possible care to your clients. How good is it to bounce around ideas with experienced like-minded clinicians! More structured mutually agreed training and study sessions are on the whiteboard for the year ahead.

  • You will partner with a well-established and admirable network of agencies who effectively team around clients.
  • You will have access to systems to help you know what to do, when to do it and why it’s important. We don’t want you overwhelmed and unsure of what we expect.
  • We provide mobile services in homes and aged care facilities across Sydney, so a current driver’s license and comprehensively insured car are essential.
  • Neuro SLP provides telehealth services, which means you can work from home when needed, using your own laptop. This ensures you maintain your telehealth muscles and helps us reach and support clients (near or far) who would otherwise miss out on effective and efficient services.
  • You will have current professional indemnity and public liability insurance.
  • Above all that – you will be a wholehearted Certified Practising Speech Pathologist who is looking to work and learn with other super experienced clinicians in a small, respectful practice where we bat way above our weight for achieving remarkable client outcomes.

Consider us the quiet achievers.

What do you think it will be like subcontracting with Neuro SLP?

Belinda would love to talk with you about what we can offer one another and our community. Let’s connect over a coffee and we can get the discussion going.
